149 NINTH STREET, SUITE 205
SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94103
T: 415.626.9379 F: 415.626.9389 This "off the grid," self-sufficient house, designed for an urban refugee, was the first straw bale house constructed in Nevada County. Electricity is provided by a rooftop photovoltaic (solar panel) array, while heat is generated by a centrally located oven/fireplace and stored in its high-mass thermal surround. The house also incorporates composting toilets and uses discarded, mismatched, concrete block for the foundation and garage, creating a subtle mosaic of grey tones.
